Free School Meals

All children in Year R, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Free School Lunches. Parents do not need to apply for these.

However, if you get any of the benefits below your child will be entitled to Free School Meals in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6.

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

You must apply for the Free School Meals and there is a link below for this.

However, in addition to the Free School Meal the school will receive £1,320 annually for every child who qualifies for Free School Meals. The school can use this funding to provide extra support for that child's learning.  The school will receive this for children from Year R on wards so it is worth applying for Free School Meals in Year R, Year 1 and Year 2 even though they will receive their lunch for free. This can make a significant difference to the child's progress.

To read how the school spends this funding see the section on Pupil Premium in the Key Information Section.
